Much like Petersen Vargas’s A Very Good Girl starring Kathryn Bernardo and Dolly de Leon, Kontrabida Academy also plays with a Devil Wears Prada-style setup — but this time, with far stronger storytelling and a far sharper execution. In fact, it feels a hundred times more cohesive and meaningful.
Barbie Forteza and Eugene Domingo truly shine, bringing depth and humour to a film that cleverly reflects Filipino culture — especially the contrast between real-life personalities and the exaggerated characters we see on television. The teleserye parody element works beautifully here, and director Chris Martinez turns it into a heartfelt tribute to the unforgettable villains of Filipino dramas.
